DANCE YOUR HEART OUT AT DISCOVER KAKA‘AKO

HONOLULU, HAWAII (September 3, 2013) – Zumba, hip-hop and everything in between comes together at September’s highly anticipated Discover Kaka‘ako on Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m at Ward Centers. The month’s theme is “Dance Your Heart Out,” a tribute to the dance lifestyle of fitness and health. Along with incredible shopping deals, food vendors and sample cocktails, Discover Kaka‘ako will also feature entertainment by dance troupes and performers, including local talent from Honolulu Dance Studio, Kalihi Breakers, Dance Central and more.

Discover Kaka‘ako will highlight the art of dance—a creative outlet perfect for the Hawaii lifestyle of staying healthy and in shape. Partners include the YMCA, Honolulu Dance Studio and the title sponsor, HMAA. From 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Discover Kaka‘ako will present Zumba classes, dance demos, an entertainment lineup including Dance Central YMCA, Kalihi Breakers YMCA, Honolulu Dance Studio and Boogie Down Productions and various opportunities for dance lovers to participate and get the insider’s tips and tricks from highlighted dance instructors.

Shoppers, be sure to take advantage of Halfy-Hour, when participating Ward Centers merchants will offer 50 percent off deals. Sample signature cocktails will also be offered to guests 21 and over throughout the night. Maps and coupon sheets will be available at the Discover Kaka‘ako information tent.

FILM MEETS FASHION AT DISCOVER KAKA‘AKO

HONOLULU, HI (July 30, 2013) – At next month’s highly-anticipated “Discover Kaka‘ako” event, presented by HMAA, guests will revel in the best of film and fashion. On August 10 from 5–9 p.m., Ward Centers will fuse silver screen glamour and local vogue, featuring the classic 1961 Elvis film, Blue Hawaiialong with Hifi COOP’s clothing exhibits.

To kick off the celebration, local band POCKET will perform at 5:15 p.m., showcasing the talents of Hawai‘i musical veterans. The band specializes in disco, funk and R&B cover tunes from the generations of the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s.

A national favorite, Blue Hawaii is also slated as a Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) feature film. Discover Kaka‘ako offers attendees a chance to revisit the times of past, or an opportunity to see old-world glamour for the first time. Stop by at 6:30 p.m. to catch the nostalgic film.

Hifi COOP, a fashion incubator on the second floor of Ward Warehouse, is O‘ahu’s fresh haven for local designers to share, experiment and showcase their pieces. All visitors are encouraged to visit the COOP after 8:15 p.m., once the film concludes. Scheduled presentations will include unique creations from the local hands of Lily of the Valley, Peace of Paradise Creations, Allison Izu Song and Rumi Murakami.

For family fun and education, visit the HMAA tent for free body composition and blood pressure screenings. These services can help point out potentially debilitating conditions. HMAA seeks to help attendees take charge of their health.

In addition to Discover Kaka‘ako’s notable film and fashion scene, guests should take advantage of 50 percent off “Half-y Hour” deals, offered at various Ward Centers stores throughout the whole night.

HONOLULU (Jan. 25, 2013) – On Saturday, Feb. 9, kama‘?ina and visitors alike can head down to “Discover Kaka‘ako” at Ward Centers to kick off the Lunar New Year with lion dancing, live music, food trucks and an exciting fashion show. Additionally, the first 500 people to show that they “Like” Ward Centers on Facebook at the Yelp tent will receive a lucky lai see (red envelopes) filled with coupons or gift cards from Ward Centers merchants ranging in value from $10 to $100.

HONOLULU - This month, Ward Centers is inviting shoppers to leap into the new year with its monthly Discover Kaka’ako event. On Jan. 12, visitors and kama’?ina can toast to new beginnings as they “Discover Kaka’ako” at Ward Centers from 5-9 p.m. with live music, fashion, food trucks and more.

“Between the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we sometimes forget to slow down. This month, we encourage residents to take joy in a night out at Discover Kaka’ako with family and friends,” said Katie Ka’anapu, Ward Centers’ senior marketing manager. “Whether your New Year’s resolution is to try a new food or learn something new, this month’s Discover Kaka’ako has something for everyone!”

  • Accomplish the New Year’s resolution to explore something new with the food and art open house at Ward Centre from 5-9 p.m. featuring select Ward Centers retailers and Kaka’ako businesses. Art displays and demonstrations from The Gallery at Ward Centre will feature collage demonstrations from 5-7 p.m. and sculpture demonstrations from 7-9 p.m.
  • Enjoy a variety of music including traditional Hawaiian, Hapa-Haole, island contemporary, pop and more in one concert with the David Asing Duo from 5-7 p.m.

Ward Warehouse Activities

  • Experience your first free fashion show at 7 p.m. at the Ward Warehouse stage, featuring the latest trends by Basique Threads, Men’s Wearhouse and DOLCE. Production assistance will be provided by The Goodwill GLAM! Squad which consists of volunteer professionals and aspiring professionals in the fields of media, marketing, event management and general project support.

HONOLULU – Honolulu residents can rediscover their own backyard with the new “Discover Kaka’ako” series at Ward Centers. Starting Nov. 10, the event takes place from 3-7 p.m. on the second Saturday of every month and invites kama’aina and visitors alike to celebrate and discover the vast options Kaka’ako has to offer with everything from fashion shows and live concerts to food trucks and contests.

“Ward Centers’ mission is to create a ‘Kaka’ako For All’ and we believe that Discover Kaka’ako provides that open invitation to residents to really take advantage of all the great things happening in our own backyard,” said Katie Ka’anapu, Ward Centers’ senior marketing manager. “With each month featuring a variety of designers, food vendors and entertainment acts, our hope is that people will have many more reasons to make Ward Centers a community gathering place.”
